Even op Instagram scrollen en je ziet het ene na het andere strakke ‘perfecte’ lichaam passeren. Maar vaak gaat aan veel van die beelden heel wat denkwerk vooraf. Bepaalde poses en andere trucjes creëren zo een ander beeld dan de werkelijkheid.
Wat het perfecte lichaam? Velen denken nog steeds dat dat ‘hoe strakker, hoe beter‘ is. Maar daar is natuurlijk niets van aan. Toch verschijnen op bijvoorbeeld Instagram vooral slanke figuren met een platte buik. Maar zien die mensen er wel altijd zo uit?
Sommige mensen zijn uiteraard gewoon heel slank en afgetraind. Anderen gebruiken echter bepaalde trucjes om er zo uit te zien. De manier waarop je staat of zit, doet heel veel met je lichaam. Natuurlijk heb je (meer) rolletjes als je voorover buigt en worden je billen breder als je neerzit. En dan is er ook nog eens Photoshop.
We zouden bijna vergeten hoe een ‘normaal‘ lichaam eruitziet en beweegt. Deze body-positive blogster Sara Puhto poseert op verschillende manieren om te tonen hoeveel effect een bepaalde pose heeft. Of hoe gespierd je eruit kan zien als je je buik intrekt.
Booty pop I was scrolling through my old photos and came across these photos where I was trying to take one of those sandy bum pics I posted the right one back in January, but the left is the reality behind that photo ☺️ I still sometimes get a slight pang of sadness and jealousy when I see all the big beautiful bums on instagram and wish I could magically have what they have. Because sometimes I feel like all my booty gains are gone when I take photos where it looks smaller, but then I remember that I shouldn’t compare my body to theirs. I have a great booty and so do they! It’s all about posing/angles and nobody looks like that all the time. There’s nothing wrong with posting a good photo of your booty, you should post it if you feel like it! Just remember that when you’re scrolling through social media and see all the posed bums that you too have a great bum and that nobody looks like that 24/7 ☺️ It seems like big butts are the thing that so many people want currently. But remember that you don’t need a big booty to be beautiful. All butts are good butts ☺️ All of our bodies are different and you don’t need a specific body type to fit into what society defines as beautiful!! It’s stressful and so messed up that body parts and types are going in and out of style- before it was being really thin, now it’s having a big booty. That shouldn’t be a thing. It causes so much stress and self hate to people who do not have these things. I know it’s hard but instead of trying to obtain these things, love how you look now. Not how you’ll look if you loose X amount of weight or get a bigger booty. Because trust me when you get to those things you’ll just want something more. Thank you I flew to South Africa yesterday and when I landed I saw that I have 100k followers firstly I just wanted to say THANK YOU! Thank you for allowing me to have this platform to spread the body positive and self love message. Thank you for constantly supporting me, which in turn has also allowed me to grow as a person. You guys are the best and I appreciate all your comments and messages so much I just felt like making a little story time post about my instagram journey so far (swipe to see) ☺️ So this has always been my only instagram, I began posting on here in 2014 with photos of my personal life when I used to have crazy colored hair and would post photos of random things (2014). Then around 2015 I posted my first progress photo after I started doing BBG workouts and decided to keep posting fitness related photos of my progress until late 2016. I don’t think there is anything wrong with posting your progress or having a fitness instagram btw, you should share and show off your hard work! But for me it became less and less of a hobby to post these types of photos and felt like I wasn’t telling the truth by posting these photos all the time because that wasn’t what I looked like 24/7, so I decided to use this platform to post body positive and self love photos and that’s what’s brought me to where I am now. I never imagined that I would be posting my biggest insecurities online but thats how life needed up working out and I love it so much because I love hearing how much it helps people when I share these posts! Bikini body I’m sure we’ve all had that feeling where you’re feeling cute at the beach but then you sit down and all of a sudden feel insecure and don’t know how to sit without your tummy feeling oddly too exposed. The other day I went to the beach and would have slight moments where I felt like people were looking at my tummy and these feelings of insecurity where I wanted to hide my tummy because “it didn’t look good” sitting down. But I realised that I was being silly and ruining my time at the beach and not enjoying it fully just because of this small silly thing. You really shouldn’t feel that way! Everyone looks like this when they sit down! Nobody is judging you and even if someone was then that’s a reflection of their inner insecurities, not yours. You are not fat. We all have fat, especially on our tummies and it’s completely normal. And that fat does not make you worth any less as a person! Nobody has abs or a flat tummy 24/7 when they sit down. Don’t let this idea ruin your time because it’s completely normal! If you want to wear a bikini, then wear it cause life’s too short not to wear what you want!! Photoshop vs reality I wanted to post this because the other day I saw an instagram post by a celebrity who had clearly photoshopped their body to make it look more curvy (the tiles behind them were curved). I’m not gonna name anyone because I don’t want anyone to come at me, but I see tons of people do this. I know people always talk about this and I know there’s nothing I can do to change it. All I want is for people to know not to ever feel bad about their body when looking at someone else. I used to feel this way and always wanted a more curvy waist like you see all over social media now a days. But it’s silly to want that. It takes 30 seconds for me to photoshop this image on the right on a free app, but it can take someone a lifetime hating their body and wishing they had what all these photoshopped bodies look like. Please don’t wish you had someone else’s body. Love the body YOU have because there’s nothing wrong with it. There’s no point in wasting time wanting to look like someone else because the reality is that everyone is different and you will never have the same body as someone else. Start embracing everything you used to feel bad about. The beauty industry strives off our insecurities, and only shows so few body types, please don’t let this make you hate yourself. Because being you and having confidence is what makes you beautiful, not what some beauty magazine portrays as beautiful. Progress photo talk I was taking progress pictures initially, but I took many different photos and ended up wanting to do one of these flexed/posing vs chilling posts (I know they’re done to death but I don’t care cause I love doing them ). But anyway, when I started working out I kept thinking to myself “I can’t wait till I’m on week 100, I’ll look so good by then and my progress pictures will be DA BOMB”. But I’m on week 96 now and weirdly felt like I don’t have that much difference between now and week 1 (when my body is relaxed), cause I saw other people doing relaxed poses and had massive differences. But then I realised that I actually don’t care ♀️ because I shouldn’t feel the need to post a photo to get validation on how hard I’ve worked, it’s this weird mindset I got from having a fitness account and getting comments on photos, where people would judge my progress. I got weirdly obsessed with wanting to please everyone and have no one say anything negative. But it doesn’t matter how long you’ve worked out for, or how much muscle you’ve gained or fat you’ve lost. It isn’t some competition of who can do the most, the quickest. It’s about YOU being healthy and happy! So next time you find yourself comparing yourself to anyone’s photos, seeing how long they’ve worked out or how they look compared to you, STOP. You should be so proud of yourself for being you! We all have different lives and bodies, life isn’t always linear, sometimes we need to navigate through things first, everyone’s journey is unique! Also, as you can see, poses change how you look!!! instagram isn’t reality, It’s a snap of a second into someone’s life. Self love ☺️ I feel like I woke up on wrong side of bed this morning, I felt so gross and was being so negative towards myself. I haven’t been as active with working out as I used to be and that’s put me into such a negative headspace, but after taking these pictures I realised I shouldn’t be so hard on myself and the negative thinking was really the only thing making me feel bad about myself! You don’t look as “bad” as you tell yourself you do! You are your own worst critic, just remember that! Try and practice being kind to yourself, even on days you feel your absolute worst, trust me, it helps so much! Before I started loving my body I would’ve looked at the right photo and deleted it instantly and thought that I’ll never have a “nice body” because of 1 photo, but now I look at it and appreciate how far I’ve come with self love and knowing that having a tummy that’s not flat is completely normal, nobody sucks in and poses their tummy in all the time! I know I say these things a lot but I feel like it helps me and some of you to constantly reassure that we’re all in this together *sings hsm song* and that we got this! We’re all beautiful in our own way! We all have different bodies and we all have bad days, but even on your down days you have to remember that you are absolutely gorgeous and you are worthy. Don’t be too harsh on yourself, you’re doing your best and you’re doing amazing! And you should be so proud of yourself. Dress for your body type You know how you get articles that say “clothing to wear for your body type”? Yeah IGNORE THOSE CAUSE THEY’RE RIDICULOUS. You can wear anything you want no matter what body type. I know they’re meant to be “guides” and not rules, but they do affect the way you judge what clothes make your body “more attractive”. Because of these I’ve hated the way my body looks from the front in dresses or anything tight, because my boobs aren’t big enough and I don’t have an “hourglass” figure. Nobody has an hourglass figure. That’s an object, women’s bodies are not objects. So wear what you want!!! People can judge you all they want for the way you look. There’s no point in listening to them. Cause if you feel good about something, go with it! Life’s too short to constantly care about what people think, do what makes you happy! Sucking in vs relaxed ☺️ These photos were taken a minute apart, on the left I’m sucking in my tummy and on the right I’m relaxing it. This is to show you guys that I can appear to be lean but in reality when I relax my tummy, it ain’t as lean as it seems I used to obsess about being lean and losing fat. Currently I’m not the leanest I’ve been weight wise, I’m actually the heaviest I’ve been in a year, and that’s completely okay because I’m also the strongest I’ve ever been. Both physically and mentally. I now use double the amount of weights than I did before when I was at my leanest weight. I can’t describe how happy, strong and confident I feel now! It no longer bothers me that I have fat on my body because I know that it’s a completely normal thing to have. Our bodies are constantly changing, every day, every hour. So don’t let a bad body image day get you down and make you think you need to crash diet or exercise excessively because that’ll just wear you out. Instead look at your body and know that whatever you’re looking at is perfectly fine! It’s what makes you, you. We are all different, we shouldn’t have to conform to one “ideal” body type. Diversity is beautiful, being unique is beautiful! So love yourself and do what makes you feel happy! Feel confident with your body, whether it’s flexed or when it’s relaxed. No amount of fat loss or muscle gain will make you happy if you’re not comfortable with who you are first. Just know that you are amazing and beautiful no matter what.
